OSTRINGEN, GERMANY - MAY 06: A meadow with wild sage pictured in the southwest German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg on May 6, 2019 in Ostringen near Sinsheim, Germany. Scientists from the State Museum of National History Stuttgart are monitoring the insects at this meadow. The meadow is obviously unencumbered by agriculture, fertilization and pesticides. There should be wild bees. But the scientists do not find any. The assumption is that honey bees have supplanted the wild bees. The scientists are using the traps, located at locations across the region, to monitor local insect populations, which research has shown have been declining steadily for decades.
